Unfortunately we got done with a punt up the pitch

Millen saw both his strikers on the scoresheet and he said: "That was one of most complete performances. The players did everything I asked of them. We played with a good tempo and stopped their talented players. That's us at our best at Ashton Gate.

"When we were on to we scored. Although Burnley had a good ten minute spell before half time, their opportunities were only half chances. We had another few chances after half time but the second goal from Nicky [Maynard] was enough to kill the game.

"We could have had three or four on the day. Over the 90 minutes they worked hard, were comfortable on the ball and created chances."

Millen restored former Bournemouth forward Brett Pitman to the starting line up and on his partnership with Maynard he added: "They are goalscorers but so is David Clarkson. That's the beauty of having quality players to call upon but we haven't got the strength in depth all over the pitch yet.

"In our forward line we have good competition for places and I thought it was the right time to freshen things up. Jamal Campbell-Ryce and Brett Pitman both came into the attacking line and performed very well."

Eddie Howe wasn't anything like as happy as he so the Clarets easily beaten in the end but he did see the game somewhat differently than Millen.

"It was a big disappointment today, in terms of the result," he said. "The performance was, I felt, a lot better and I felt we dominated possession but we didn't really create chances in the final third and conceded two poor goals.

"Up until the first goal I felt we were in control and it came at a bad time, then we were chasing the game. The timing of any goal is not good, but it was a blow to us after we had been the better side.

"We regrouped and I felt the goal was going to come in the second half. We dominated possession and didn't really put enough balls into the box or work their goalkeeper nearly enough.

"Unfortunately we got done with a punt up the pitch and I don't think it's a goal we will want to look back on. We should have dealt with it, but at 2-0 it's very difficult. We kept going but there was a feeling that we weren't going to score and that disappoints me. "

One positive for Howe was the full debut of midfielder Marvin Bartley. He added: "I felt Marvin did very well and the fans saw what he is all about today. He had great energy and was all over the pitch, so I was really pleased with him and he was the one positive to come from the game."
