They'll want to get involved in a real ding-dong of a game

Mick McCarthy landed the Ipswich job on 1st November 2012. He'd been linked with the Burnley job too before that went to Sean Dyche on 30th October.

McCarthy has got his team close to that sixth place in the table but knows it is going to be a difficult task to get his side into the end of season play -offs.

He's hoping they will still be in with a chance by the time they face Sheffield Wednesday at home next week. "You never know, but if we win, then we are still in it and in the mix for the last game of the season, which would be brilliant," he said.

But he warned: "Burnley have only lost two at home and tomorrow's game will be different circumstances for them, they will have enjoyed their success this week. They are a team of winners, as they've proved this season, and won't want to lose their final home game to us.

"I remember having a discussion with Sean Dyche at the start of the season. We were discussing FFP, salary, budgets and all sorts. I guess neither of us thought we'd do as well as we have done at that point.

"They have been remarkable. Everyone expected them to drop off, as they only have a small squad, but they've stayed the distance and deserve their success. Sean's got some good experienced players and they have done as well as anyone, not just in this league but in all the leagues.

"To maintain what they've done and get promoted is credit to Burnley. They've been fantastic."

The one game at a time mantra hasn't disappeared and Dyche has told his team they must continue to go hard tomorrow as he looks to break that 90 point mark.

Looking back to us clinching that promotion with the win against Wigan, he said: "It was fantastic on Monday with the way the game went and the way we performed, the whole thing really, the atmosphere, the fans, my family were there on the pitch, so you couldn't ask for any more and it was a fitting way to get the job done.

"But it's important that we have our team ready for the Ipswich match and that we go out in the right manner. They've done it in every game this season and I don't see why that should change.

"We've kept our integrity all season and we want to keep the integrity of the division. I'd expect that of other teams if it was ourselves that needed teams to make sure they're giving performances, so I certainly expect it of us."

He added: "I know Big Mick and Terry Connor there and they'll have their team ready, make no mistake. They're driving forward, they want to get into those play-off spots, so it's important that we'll be ready for that.

"They'll come here and want to get involved in a real ding-dong of a game because they want the three points, but what Mick will find, and he knows from myself and the way my team go about it, we'll be ready, we'll be looking to win again and we'll be taking that thought into the Reading game as well."

He ended by saying: "We want to go out at home on a win and go down to Reading and win there. We've only lost five games so we're not looking for that to change. We want to make sure we stay competitive and win football matches.

"It's been part of our mentality. A couple of our mantras are, go in hard and be relentless. They're all the things we've believe in all season so that shouldn't change. We want to win the game and we want to win the following on after that."
