There's a big learning curve for us

It was Jose Mourinho's first visit to Turf Moor as Chelsea boss, and he even applauded the Burnley fans at the end, after seeing his side really turn it on for a spell in the first half, but he first spoke of how his team reacted to going behind.

"We had a good reaction," he said. "The first part of that reaction was that we were not emotionally affected by the goal we conceded. We kept playing according to the way we are training and the way we want to play. The players were very calm and never lost their composure. They never lost the football idea.

"After that we had a fantastic 20 minutes with three goals. The second goal especially was a fantastic goal. Plus there was the penalty that the linesman decided not to give.

"In the second half we had control of the game. I was a bit afraid because I know my players are not in the top physical form ready to give the same kind of performance for 90 minutes, so we lost a little bit of attacking appetite, but the control of the game and of possession was always there.

"I think we clearly deserved these three points against a side that is going to give a fight to everyone that comes here."

Speaking about the Clarets, Mourinho added: "It was difficult. They played to their strengths, very direct with two strikers close to each other. The wingers have lots of intensity. They are a very well worked side so the coach has to be good.

"They have to play against teams with a different dimension of players in the Premier League but I think with the potential they have they will give a difficult match to everyone that comes here."

Sean Dyche saw his Burnley team concede three times at Turf Moor for the first time since he became manager but he was philosophical after the game.

"It's not a sprint; it's a marathon and we know there will be some bumps along the way," he admitted. "I don't think you can class tonight as a bump. I think that's the reality of where they are and where we are. We are still learning and improving and they are looking close to being the real deal.

"Even when you prepare for a team like that, they can still go harder than you probably thought they could and that's probably one of the learning curves. Overall though, I am happy. There has to be a reality to what we are hoping to achieve this season. I think they are top of the market, or certainly up there, but I felt we kept going.

"That mentality is going to be very important over the season and the will and demand was there.

"It's fair to say they have got so much quality in all areas and they can hurt you in any way. They are powerful, physical and can play. They've got great awareness and movement and they have been put together for about £350 million, and there are clear signs of why.

"You can't switch off for a second, but for their second goal you have to hold your hand up sometimes in the Barclays Premier League. There are some players with fantastic quality and Cesc Fabregas is certainly one of them.

"There's a big learning curve for us and I think we've started approaching the top end. We know that's not going to be our market if we are honest, but we will know we can learn from the experience and that's what we'll look to do."

Scott Arfield scored our goal, and Dyche said: "What a fantastic journey Scott is on. To think we plucked him out of Huddersfield on a free transfer and arguably he was looking down the barrel of League One.

"We got him on a free last season and he was fantastic for us. We know he's got a goal in him and he was excellent all night tonight. That will build belief in players that they can handle this.

"There's an inner belief that the big boys have. They play with almost a touch of arrogance, we are growing into that and building. We want to be humble, but we need that touch of arrogance when we are out there."
