There is no magic fairy dust

Former Claret Brian Laws was at Turf Moor for the fifth time as a manager and he's still to end on the losing side. He thought the penalty was turning point in the game because of the effect it had on our players and fans. "It certainly changed the face of the game because the penalty wound up the home fans and the Burnley players and really spurred them on," Laws said.

"Until then the crowd had been quiet but the penalty certainly got them going and they came back at us to score in their next attack. That was disappointing because we defended very well on the whole and there was just that one lapse which allowed Burnley to get back level at 1-1."

Laws was also unhappy at the referee following a foul by David Unsworth on Yoann Folly in the second half. "I don't like to use the word 'bottle' but I think the referee did bottle it in that situation. When he [Unsworth] made the challenge the referee went for his pocket but then turned away and took no further action. It would have changed the game if they had gone down to ten men."

Owen Coyle is still looking for his first home win as Burnley manager and for the second successive Turf Moor game led with comments about the referee, this time on that penalty. "Whether it is a penalty or not, I think it is only fair if your goalkeeper is allowed to defend the penalty," he claimed.

"I think it was clear to everybody. All goalkeepers go and clean their boots at the post and he still had his back to goal. I don't want to get caught up in it, but the easiest thing would be to say 'goalkeeper are you ready?' and then blow the whistle. I just think that is common sense.

"I asked the referee at half time, quite calmly, but there was nothing we could do about it, it has gone at that point. Had Gabor been there the lad might have scored in any case, but equally he might not and all you ask for is an opportunity to defend the penalty."

On the quick equaliser and the general performance Coyle added: "We showed great character to bounce back so quickly and then take it on, without maybe getting to the heights that we are capable of.

"We had plenty of time to go and win the game and I have to credit the players again because we were down to the bare bones through injury and suspension. All credit to the lads who came in and I actually thought we did just enough to win the match.

"It was hard fought and there was plenty of endeavour and we certainly weren't as fluent as we have been in recent games, but we had a few opportunities and I can't recall Gabor having too much to do, other than a few long range shots.

In the main I felt we dictated the pace of the game and it will be nice to get our full compliment of players back. There is no magic fairy dust, we just need to keep working hard and trying to get that home win on the board."
