There is a trait in the team to keep giving goals away

We beat Rotherham just after they won promotion but have failed to get the better of Ronnie Moore’s side since with a run of draws and a 6-2 defeat thrown in.

Moore was happy enough with his team’s display. "I thought we were unlucky to be one down at half time because I thought we had had enough of the game with three or four shots which their keeper saved," said Moore after the final whistle.

"And in the second half we were brave and kept the ball well and it was good to get the goal back so soon. It was nice for John Mullin to score, Stan Ternent must hate him because he scored twice here last season.

"Overall it was a decent performance and I was pleased with the lads but those shots in the first half should really have been into the corners and not straight at the keeper .

"If we had been a bit brighter with our final pass we would probably have gone on to win the game. Their goal came out of nothing really, Martin McIntosh went for the ball but he didn’t get his header in and Blake always seems to play well and score against us. It was in the back of the net before the keeper could move but we had three players round him and one of them should have got a tackle in.

"Early in the second half our Ian had a chance but we had spoken before the game and he said he would miss them for me. That’s the way football is, very soon after we went up the field and equalised.

"It was a good ball from Paul Warne to put Mullin in but I thought we could have done that a bit more often. Mullin got clear a couple of times but the final pass just wasn’t right. We created enough chances but the ball just didn’t fall right for us sometimes. However, I was pleased by the way we played.

"To get a draw at Burnley was a decent result but now we have to make sure we get some good results in the next half dozen games against teams who are in and around where we are, we must win four of those games. If we don’t we could be isolated."

Again Stan was bemoaning the soft goal we gave away. "I’m very disappointed," he said. "We’ve gone and done it again, gone in front only to gift them a goal, this time it was Mooro who got caught in midfield. Ball retention is so important and it is criminal to give it away where we did.

"But we’ve had enough chances to win the game so we’ll keep working hard and get it out of our system.

"Their goal came after a lovely move at the other end from us but we’ll come through this. It seems there is a trait in the team to keep giving goals away.

"It was good to see Robbie get a goal, he took it very well and he played well today but we just needed a second goal and we did have a blatant penalty turned down. That was a non decision and everyone inside the ground saw it but the referee didn’t give it.

"We’ve got a game on Tuesday and that gives us a chance to get a win, so we will get it right."
