The reaction from us as a team wasn't fantastic

Leicester had won just one of their last nine games, and that against Scunthorpe, but they didn't falter this afternoon in a performance that pleased the former England manager.

"We actually played quite well against Middlesbrough, but today we were focused," he said after the game. "There was a real attitude from us today, a real concentration.

"I was pleased that we were positive and that we started the game well. It was an open beginning and Burnley tried to play good football, so perhaps their approach favoured us. But the way we continued, there was only going to be one result today.

"The goals were beautiful, but I am just satisfied with how the team played, that is more important. Now we look to Tuesday and another big game, but they are all big games now. We must handle that pressure and we must focus as we did today. Whilst he play offs are mathematically possible we will keep fighting."

Leicester have gone above the Clarets now and after what was a difficult day for Clarets' new boss Howe he said: "It was a very disappointing day. I have asked the players to think about their individual performance, think of how they prepare for games and making sure they are giving everything, because that's all the Burnley fans want to see; the players giving everything they have got and chasing lost causes for the team and the badge.

"Unfortunately, for the last half hour, I don't think that was too evident. You don't get anything in football or life without working hard. That gives you the rewards at the end of the day, so going back to basics is the first step."

He continued: "I felt we started quite brightly and created a few chances. There wasn't a great deal in it, but we conceded a poor goal from our point of view and the turning point was the second goal.

"I have only seen the penalty once and Andre says there was minimal contact, but I thought it was a penalty at the time and when that goes in it's game over and we really struggled from there on in.

"The reaction from us as a team wasn't fantastic and the rest of the game was hard to watch. A few heads dropped and there is no hiding the fact we have to do better.

"As manager I take responsibility. The buck stops with me and as a team and individuals everyone has to do better. You look at everything and analyse it all as part of the process, but we need a response.

"We are struggling to find that winning formula and confidence we had. Confidence is such a fragile thing and it's the basis on all performances you give, so we have to get them believing in themselves again and believing as a team.

"We need to turn it around very quickly. We are running out of games and it's going to be incredibly difficult for us now, but first and foremost we need to win a game. I think that would make all the difference to us mentally. We just need a win.
