The players will be off and having a well deserved break

There has been speculation about his future at Millwall for some time, that he didn’t get on with the new chairman elect and that was all confirmed yesterday. And with the futures of Kevin Blackwell and Sam Ellis surely hanging in the balance at Leeds it could well be that Wise could find himself there by the time next season kicks off.

His departure was as dramatic as his arrival, that followed his sacking at Leicester after he attacked team mate Callum Davidson, now at Preston, as he chose not to speak about the game against the Clarets.

“I've had a meeting with the new chairman, he told me his direction and I didn't agree," said Wise after the game. “We just didn't hit it off and I just want what is best for the club. I've just told the lads in the dressing room and it has come as a big shock to them.

“I've been thinking about it for a long time and I came to the decision that I started here with Theo Paphitis and I want to go out with him," Wise added. "This is all about Millwall and what is best for them. Having met with the chairman it was clear that me staying in charge as manager was not in the best interest of the club.

“I've loved my time with Millwall, I've found the fans brilliant. People told me the supporters were hard work here but they've been magnificent to me."

For Steve Cotterill though, it was the end of his first season in charge and there were no such dramatics from him as he spoke about the game.

“I thought we played well today, especially in the first half,” Steve said after the game. “The extra man we had in the middle worked very well and I thought we were a bit unfortunate not to go in at half time in front. “Having said that, to come away from Millwall with a point is a good result.”

And it was a second successive clean sheet following the home win over Plymouth and that as always pleased the manager. “It was another clean sheet and I think that’s 22 we’ve had this season which isn’t bad at all,” he added.

“I thought it was a good performance and a decent day. I think we’ve ended up in 13th position after all the results, but we could have ended up in 11th had the penalty gone in, which would have looked nicer over the summer months.”

Regarding the penalty he said, “Micah doesn’t usually take them, so he hadn’t taken any in practice, be he was taking them today and I thought it was a good save from the goalkeeper.”

And for Steve it is not time for a break from Turf Moor. “You’ don’t have a break at the end of the season if you are a manager, so we’ll be in tomorrow and I’ll speak to a few people and then the players will be off and having a well deserved break.”
