"It's frustrating to only get a point after that many chances and I expected us to put more away," Brooking admitted after it took a late equaliser to earn them that point.
"It was good that Alan Pardew was here today and it's good that he has seen how frail it is, as well as having seen the positives. From seven home games we've only managed three wins and in this division that isn't good enough.
"Burnley worked hard to give them credit, but we have to be more clinical up front. Connolly and Defoe get plenty of chances, and I hope they learn to put more away, but today we threw two points away. It's obvious that there's still a lot of work to be done between now and May."
Stan meanwhile was clearly happier that he had been four days earlier at Ipswich and didn’t quite see things the same was as Brooking.
"I felt that we deserved that point today and with a bit more luck we could have had all three," Stan said. "I thought we were going to win but all credit to West Ham, they came back at us and it was a fantastic finish by Hutchison for the equaliser but it was a harsh decision that brought the free kick against Arthur when he had cleanly headed it.
"But today we passed the ball well, defended well and it was a good game to watch for the fans, it was end-to-end stuff. And the players showed their character today."
