The performance in the second half was sublime

Robins had seen his side beat Nottingham Forest on Saturday and was looking for them to get their first away win of the season, but two Chris Eagles goals and one from Chris Iwelumo, all in the second half, put paid to those hopes.

"As soon as we conceded a goal away from home we capitulate and that is not good enough," Robins fumed who wasn't happy with the award of the penalty from which Eagles got his second.

"You will get decisions go against you away from home but we are Barnsley after all," he added.

"It looks as though our heads go down as soon as we concede away from home and we are better than that. We have shown that we are better than that. I might have to pick a team to play at home and one to play away.

"He could not wait to give that penalty so Burnley had a bit of luck with that one and we gave Eagles far too much space on the edge of the area for the first. We had the better chances in the game before then.

"I was pleased with the way we played in the first half but that was like chalk and cheese. It must be a mental thing, it isn't a quality thing or a physical thing because we have shown that we are better than that.

"I have asked them whether I have a team who only want to play at home. We have only turned up for a half again today and our supporters deserve more than that. That was not acceptable. We will be in tomorrow and working on the training field.

Robins also confirmed that former Burnley loan defender Jay McEveley is likely to be out for some time after being stretchered off during the second half. McEveley's loan spell at Burnley came to an end through a serious injury sustained in an FA Cup tie at Mansfield.

Robins said: "Jay McEveley looks like he will be out for a while. The physio thinks he has ruptured his medial ligament and that is horrendous. We will know more tomorrow."

If Robins was angry with his players then Brian Laws certainly wasn't. The Burnley boss had been unhappy with the way we'd thrown two points away on Saturday at Sheffield United but here, once in front, he saw his team turn on the style.

"I thought it was a great performance, especially on the back of Saturday's disappointed," Laws said. "The players were very depressed after that game after throwing away two vital points.

"The pressure was on us tonight to get the win and it was never going to be easy against a good side. They showed that in the first twenty minutes but after being critical of the defence and how deep they were, I have to give credit where it's due.

"Leon Cort, in particular, was for me the man of the match. He made two critical tackles at 0-0 and that was the catalyst for us. You have to give him credit because that kept us in the game.

"The first goal was always going to be the key though and once we got that I thought we started to open them up even more and the performance in the second half was sublime."

He saw Chris Eagles get the first two goals and added: "Chris will get the plaudits because he is in sensational form. What a player though! And when he is in that form he is frightening to watch. He is just unplayable when he is in that sort of confident mood.

"The work he does off the ball, as you have seen today, is terrific and if anything he probably does too much. In the end, that's maybe why he got cramp and we took him off to save him for Saturday."

With Danny Fox failing to recover in time it meant a league debut for Brian Easton fifteen months after signing for Burnley.

Laws said: "The other side of the result is that we have a young guy who has come in at the last minute. I didn't tell Brian until an hour before kick off because I thought he might be nervy, but he has made his debut for the football club and I thought he had a solid performance.

"He grew into the game and got better and better and it's another test of the character and depth of the squad. I was tempted into a few options, but I felt if there was ever an option for a young player to come into the side, tonight was it.

"He will be very pleased with himself and he will certainly give Foxy a few thoughts and he will be eager to train tomorrow because of Brian's performance."
