The mantra is one game at a time

Freedman, under pressure at Bolton, a club for whom he didn't score 12 goals, thought his team were better than the Clarets on the night and should have won the game and yet didn't think they'd done enough to win.

He said: "I felt that once again we were the better side in a game. We've hit the crossbar in the first half and the ball has flashed across the face of goal.

"We've got to take our chances when they come our way. We have to be ruthless when we're on top. I felt we probably deserved to be at least one goal up going into half time.

"Overall, we feel like it is one point lost this evening because I didn't feel we did enough to warrant all three points.

I think Burnley showed why they are towards the top of the table. I thought they defender very well and put their bodies on the line for the cause.

"Right now we have got to stick together. This is a difficult moment for the club, but we're all fighting for the same cause. I thought our fans were fantastic tonight. They got behind the side throughout the course of the game and they saw a committed performance.

"We can't hide from where we are right now. Games against the likes of Burnley won't decide our future. It's games against the team in and around us that are going to prove crucial. We have to start picking up points, starting with next weekend's game against Millwall."

It was all smiles for Ginger Mourinho again who started with praise for his two central defenders and goalscorer Sam Vokes.

"We looked very solid defensively and the two centre halves were excellent again, but I thought Sam was just on a different level tonight.," he said.

"I felt we were absolutely outstanding. We have made a pact with the group about being relentless and limitless. They are two words we use a lot and you should never limit yourself.

"I said to Sam that it annoys me when strikers put a figure on something. Why do that? Just go and enjoy your football and go and see what you can get out of it, and Sam is certainly doing that."

He added: "In the first half it was a more balanced affair, but in the second, apart from the last seven or eight minutes, when the long stuff starts coming in as you chase the game, I felt we deserved it.

"That's another mini-marker in history tonight because there was a lot of noise about us not having won at Bolton for 30 years.

"They are only markers and a bit of fuel for the players, but we have laid down a good mentality this year to bin all of those things. The past can't make the future what it is. Only we can do that.

"We have made it quite clear. It's not that we are not excited about how we are doing and what the team is playing like. We are aware of the tough nature of this topsy-turvy division and you cannot take anything for granted.

"We haven't and that's why the mantra is one game at a time. We've done that all season and I've told the lads to enjoy the moment because we start recovering immediately, ready for Bournemouth."
