The lack of numbers is our problem

The excitement was so much for Birmingham, the opportunity to play at the Turf again, that they didn’t even make it on time and kick off was delayed by just about 20 minutes until they arrived and warmed up.

Mr. Loyal Steve Bruce was more than happy with his side’s performance and in particular with the showing from his record signing David Dunn.

"David Dunn looks like a very good player and you can see why we have spent the money we have on him on this performance," he said. "He can score a goal, he’s a big powerful lad who will be a good acquisition for us I am sure."

And going on to the game itself, "All we are looking at is the chance to use all the squad. We made vast changes to it today, but there was a decent balance to us and we looked okay.

"Remember that we are a week behind Burnley and we have had a tiring sort of week with the travelling. The main thing is that we didn’t pick up any injuries and the fitness levels are right. We need to give the players every opportunity of being right in two weeks time when we play Tottenham."

Stan took a day off from the after match press conference and Sam Ellis faced the media after the game,

"I think the gaffer has been more pleased as time has gone on," said Ellis. "We were pleased with the performance today, but the result isn’t what matters at this stage.

"We could have scored more goals but there again we could have conceded more."

Going on to talk about the squad and the numbers available Sam added, "We just have a shortage of numbers at the moment and with Gareth Taylor how he is with the eye injury and Ian Moore suspended different things will have to be looked at.

"Ian has had a great pre-season scoring five goals and he is out now but Richard Chaplow will be at the forefront of the gaffer’s mind next week.

"We are happy with how the players are looking ahead of the season, it is just the lack of numbers that is our problem.
