The biggest kick in the teeth we could have got

The win took Southend out of the bottom three for the first time in months and manager Steve Tilson was fully aware of just how important that goal was. "It's all about the result, and it is a relief to win this game," he said after seeing Richie Foran grab that stoppage time winner.

"We played till the end and that is what happens when you do, it was a great time to score. I'm delighted Richie got his first goal for us and overall it was a fantastic night.

"It was a tough game against a side who hadn't won for a while. They made life difficult and stopped us playing. We got more of a foothold in the second half but we didn't play anything like as much football as I would like.
"It's not about performances though, it is about getting results. We have eight cup finals left and it is going to be a massive game on Saturday against Leeds."

For Burnley, it was another long journey home after a sixteenth successive league game without a win, a run that equals the post war record, and is just one short of the all time record.

Steve Cotterill spoke after the game and said: "It is massively disappointing. We had three right backs tonight, but we ran out and that has cost us in the end. Wade has to go in there and made the mistake, but we can't lay blame at his door because he was forced to go in there.

"Wade is probably the one person who is more familiar with that right back spot than anyone else on the field and he's made a mistake. I'm not going to condemn him for it because while I am sick, he is probably feeling worse."

The manager, like the rest of us, thought we'd got a draw from the game and added: "I thought it was going to be a hard earned point and we deserved that. To concede in the 92nd minute was probably the biggest kick in the teeth we could have got tonight.

"In the run we are on, we are not going to be playing free flowing football as we were earlier in the season. While we weren't as good as we were back then there has been nothing wrong with the fight and desire. It is just so hard for them to relax and they have to just give it everything. We have got into a rut and we are finding it hard.

"I think we have deserved a little luck in the past few weeks, but it hasn't happened and everyone of us is hurting in the dressing room. I looked down and saw our supporters at the end and I felt so sorry for them because they will go back feeling down. We feel the same and I don't think I can ask much more from anyone.

"Tonight we weren't good enough in the right back area from the minute we had the changes and that has cost us because we just ran out of players."
