The attitude and fitness of the players looked good

Kevan, in charge whilst Steve Cotterill is away, was delighted with the fact that both strikers got goals during the second half comeback. “It is lovely for Andy and Steve to both be off the mark,” he said. “We are delighted we've got our front men up and running.

“It is still very much early days because they haven't done any work together, other than fitness work. Therefore it's too early to read too much into it, but the signs are there that this could be a good partnership.”

Looking at the game as a whole Kevan added: “The lads all worked hard last week and the game was just an extension of that. We were looking to give them all forty-five minutes and get as much fitness into them as we could.

“Both halves of the game were pleasing for different reasons. The attitude and fitness of the players looked good and we were pleased to win the game. We were disappointed to be 2-0 down at half time, but every credit to Accrington, they played well and caused us some problems.

“This wasn't so much a result day, more a measure of where we are in terms of the work we've done.”

Accrington Stanley boss John Coleman said: “It was good to be playing football again and after the World Cup there should be an appetite to play games. I was particularly pleased that we looked hungry and wanted to get on the ball and to play.”
