Such is the character and will to drive each other on

Watford had twice led in the game but went home with nothing as the Clarets rallied in the second half to take all three points, and that left Boothroyd far from happy. "When you go ahead in a game like that you win the game if you are professional," Boothroyd said after seeing a Wade Elliott goal win it for Burnley.

"Tonight we were very unprofessional in a lot of things we did, and that's why we got beat. It's not acceptable really and I'm annoyed. It was there for us to win, we stuck to the game plan and got ahead, but they're a strong team and kept going and we didn't do what was instructed for ninety minutes. If you don't do that you get punished.

"We were 1-0 up, and 2-1 up, and we lost 3-2, that's pretty much it. That doesn't happen, you win the game and we didn't do that."

Offering praise to his striker Will Hoskins, who scored both their goals, he added: "It was no tougher for Hoskins that it is on anybody else. He's played very well and scored two goals. His movement was good and that's all you ask a centre forward to do.

"But, if you score two goals away from home then you should win and we didn't because we conceded three very, very average goals.

"Changes must now be made, and there will be changes in within the camp, that's for sure. Like any walk of life, if you don't do your job properly then you get punished for it. Tonight we made fundamental errors which you can't do and expect to win."

There was no such criticism from Owen Coyle who saw goals from Graham Alexander, Martin Paterson and Wade Elliott bring us level twice before going on to win the game. "It's a magnificent three points and we certainly made it hard for ourselves," he said after seeing his side go fourth in the league.

"I felt that in the first half, because we have played a lot of games, we looked heavy legged. But such is the character and will to drive each other on, that we really carried it on and we were deserving of the three points.

"We certainly never hit the heights of recently, but to go behind twice in a game, particularly in the manger of the second one on the stroke of half time, and win spoke volumes for the character, hunger and desire in the side."

Coyle was clearly not over happy with the first half and admitted it got heated at half time. "One or two words were exchanged at half time," he said, "And the players were under no illusions what was required in the second half.

"We needed to up the pace and we did that. We scored a magnificent goal and it culminated in Wade's winning goal which was a magnificent move. It just keeps the momentum going and that's what we are trying to do.

"We are just pleased we've won the game. I think we can play a lot better and certainly defences weren't on top, but we are delighted. All we are trying to do now is keep the players focused and maintaining the standards they have set. Having set them it would be letting everyone down if they slip below them."
