Stan must have saved the referee a season ticket

There was certainly a difference of opinion after the match between the two managers as Rotherham’s manager all but suggested that referee Andy Hall, the referee who for the second time this season has incredibly yellow carded five Burnley players, was on our side.

After the game Moore said, "When you consider the players they had missing today I was disappointed with a draw. Davis and Little are valuable players for them but we weren’t able to play the way we have been doing at home although I was delighted with a clean sheet.

"There wasn’t a real clear cut chance in the game apart from the Richie Barker header which went over the bar and Nick Daws’ free kick in the second half. Burnley had once chance when Robbie Blake showed some great skill and our Ian got a toe on the ball and hit the outside of a post.

"I can’t moan at the players, they gave their all, but we didn’t have anyone who could open the door, if anything it was going to need a mistake to lead to a goal. On the day we didn’t have anyone who could twist and turn but it was a battling performance and another point along the way.

"I took Alan Lee off because the referee was after him, I don’t know what had happened but he had been earmarked by the referee. I think Stan must have saved the referee a season ticket at Turf Moor judging by some of the decisions he made.

"You can’t be brilliant all the time and I have nothing but praise for the way the lads stuck at it, I’m just disappointed we couldn’t get the winner. We were magnificent last week against Watford but no two games are alike, it’s as simple as that. Players might moan about the wet conditions but in reality we didn’t pass the ball about well enough. We gave the ball away too often and made the wrong decisions at times."

Stan though was pleased to come away with a point after a tough game and was happy at the way we had handled the physical demands in this game.

"It was a hard game and an ugly game but it was a good point in a difficult game. We had to withstand a lot of pressure from long throws and free kicks but losing Gareth Taylor so early in the game made it difficult for us in the air.

"Overall though I think we deserved a point on what was a good pitch considering all the weather. I thought the whole team worked extremely hard and kept their shape well and we deserved the point, neither side deserved to win, although we had a couple of really good chances in the second half.

"Steve Davis was out with a groin strain whilst Glen Little had a problem with his calf. They are two key players for us and we only had sixteen as you can see (Matthew O’Neill a sub at Derby was also in the squad).

"Gareth Taylor got an elbow in his ear and he can’t remember a thing about it although he is well enough to travel home with us."
