Relief would be the word

Rodgers thought this defeat was hard to take and he was far from happy with the penalty that gave Burnley the winner. He said: "It was a game where again we had good control. We could have been 3-0 up at half time but we didn't take our chances.

"We scored a great goal through Fabio Borini who I thought was fantastic again, but we seem to have got into the habit of letting teams off the hook, like we did against Hull in midweek.

"The first goal we conceded was off Ash's head and the second was never a penalty, although I was disappointed with our positioning. We've gone from taking control to losing the game 2-1 and that's very hard to take.

"We shot ourselves in the foot and not to get something out of the game is very disappointing."

Eddie Howe was much the happier manager after seeing Burnley win for the first time in seven games. "Football is a very, very strange game and relief would be the word," Howe said.

"We expected Swansea to play as well as they did, especially in the first half. When we conceded again, we needed something special and I felt we got it in the second half.

"When you are on a bad run and you concede again at home, you need something to spark you to life. Thankfully the response of the players was excellent and the crowd were fantastic in the second half.

"It created an atmosphere that made it very difficult for Swansea and it does go to show what we are capable of when we get it right. The lads game me absolutely everything, which is all you can ask for.

"For the players to respond like that, following the frustrating run we have been on , is testament to the spirit and determination in the dressing room. It just shows what we are capable of when we get it right and I want that to be the hallmark of the side here, week in and week out, in terms of attitude, determination, heart and character.

"They are fundamentals and when we perform as we can we are a match for anyone in this division. Tuesday is a very important game for us and we want to try and win all our remaining games to give us the best opportunity.

"If we can carry on where we left off, and be positive, we will get the crowd going here. They made such a difference and I would love to see that same atmosphere again."
