Our focus this two weeks has been Peterborough

Ferguson knows his team have to start picking up point soon and he's set an initial target of the next three games to help give his side a boost.

"I set us points targets from every block of five matches," said Ferguson whose team are still awaiting their first point. "Obviously we are behind my target for the first five, but a win at Burnley would transform the mood and set us up nicely for two home matches.

"We are aiming for three wins (the other two games are both home games against Bristol City and Wolves). That's the target and although I know it's a tough ask, it's not impossible.

"It's my job to stay confident and positive, but I genuinely believe there is enough in our dressing room for us to start winning games very soon. There have been signs in the last couple of matches that we are on the verge of better results.

"We will go to Burnley in a positive frame of mind. They have an experienced spine to their team and they spent £1 million on a centre back (Jason Shackell) recently so it won't be an easy game for us, but we can cause them problems."

Burnley, too, go into the game out of form on the back of three successive defeats but Eddie Howe, who has declined the opportunity to bring in any players on emergency loans is confident his team can get back to winning ways, although he warned: "This isn't going to be an easy game despite the fact Peterborough haven't got any points.

"I watched their game against Birmingham and arguably they were the better team, but we know we are capable of winning the game if we perform to our best and that's what we have to try and make sure we do.

"There is a feeling within the camp that there is a performance around the corner and we are desperate to go out and show what a good team we are. I don't think we have become a bad team because of a couple of results and we are very keen to prove a point.

"It's a big game for us. They all are, but we are aware of how important this one is and hopefully we can get the result we all want."

Looking back to the last game against Brighton, a game that ended in a 3-1 defeat, he added: "We weren't happy with how we performed against Brighton but that's gone. That's history and we can only look forward and this is a big game for us now. We are aware of that and I am sure the lads are ready.

"I don't think you can let a poor performance linger. It's very much a case that you can't do anything about the game now, but what we can affect is the next one and the reaction to training and the intensity we have trained at has been superb.

"Our focus this two weeks has been Peterborough and hopefully that will show in the performance."
