Nobody will get a rollocking from me for trying things

Holloway was fully aware of just how far behind Burnley his side was at times during the game and admitted as much after the final whistle. "After our performance in the first half it looked highly unlikely that we would get a point out of the game. To come away with a result after the mauling we got showed character and no mean skill.

"After we made a tactical change we looked much more balance. We got the width that I was looking for. The boys started to show me some confidence and they need to get that going because we are just a home win away from being a half decent side.

"I feel sorry for the players, they have had so many different voices over the last few months, but they showed some character in the second half. I asked them to show me what they are about and I was very pleased with the lads that came on. They showed me that they want to play for Leicester and that is all I can ask."

Holloway was impressed with his forward Carl Cort and added: "I thought that Carl was terrific. The shape that we were playing towards the end really suited him. I like playing with the two wide men and we got our goal from it."

And his final summary. "It was disappointing to have given a goal away from a throw-in, but sometimes football is about character and we bounced back although we were left grateful to our goalkeeper. We deserved it after the defeat at the weekend, which was down to a ludicrous decision."

New Burnley boss Owen Coyle, undefeated in four games, is still looking for his first home win but felt his side deserved it after this performance.

"I think we deserved to win the game. Particularly in the first half we created chance after chance, not even half chances," he said. "In the second half we started to make chance after chance again and their goalkeeper has had an inspired night.

"Some of the passing and moving was terrific and I think we can develop that and get better at it and if we keep playing like that the home wins are just around the corner, there's no doubt about that.

"The fans stayed there until the end because they can see what we are trying to do and we can take that on now, develop it and show we can be a threat. We kept carrying the fight into injury time to get to get that winner and if we keep playing that way we will win games.

"I was a striker and you miss chances. I missed enough of them, but you are looking to take a decent percentage and if we had done that we would be sitting here now with three or four goals."

Coyle had words for Kyle Lafferty who had a frustrating night that could, and maybe should, have seen him the hero of a win. "Kyle is a young kid making his way in the game and if we can get to work with him, which we have not really been able to do, we can maybe add that little bit of composure.

"We saw at the end how he came along the by-line and took two or three players out of play. It just needed that little bit of composure to finish it, but I said at the end of the game that nobody will get a rollocking from me for trying things in the last third.

"We want to win games, of course we do. But equally we want people coming back saying 'you know what, that's not bad football'."
