I've got a response, which is fantastic

Gray's been in charge since the sacking of Brian Laws and has worked alongside youth coach Terry Pashley and club captain Graham Alexander for the games against Sheffield United, Reading and Port Vale.

Today it looks as though the new manager Eddie Howe will be watching from the stands with Gray, expected to continue in his coaching role at Burnley, hoping to end with a win and give the new boss an even better platform to start.

He caretaker boss spoke yesterday ahead of the game and ahead of last night's news that Howe was on his way and said: "There is always uncertainty, not only for myself but the other staff here who are asking questions.

"I've got plenty of experience though, and I know things like this don't last 24 hours. There are always negotiations and contracts, but all we can affect is what we do on the pitch and the players' application has been fantastic in training and on the pitch.

"None of us can affect what goes on in the boardroom. We just want to get some consistency, starting tomorrow. My focus has been on trying to show some stability from the team. I've got a response, which is fantastic.

"Nothing is certain in this game and nothing is final until the fat lady sings, but if the spell is to end tomorrow I want three points. It's a huge game and the most important thing is getting the players organised."

Gray believes the new man has a great squad to work with and, looking at today's opponents QPR, added: "The only difference between us and QPR is they have shown consistency and put the points on in threes.

"It should be a good atmosphere and the crowd should be up for it. If we can get to the levels we have reached in recent weeks we will give them a very good game.

"We will respect them, but we won't fear them. When I look at them I think there is not much difference between the sides. They have youth and experience and goalscorers and creative players, as have we.

"Consistency has been the one difference and we are aware we need to now start putting the points on in threes, which QPR did, especially early on in the season, and shoot up the league."
