It's small margins again, but we had chances tonight

Jon Rudkin was the one who spoke after the game, having seen Leicester win th game 3-1, and he said: Burnley is not an easy place to come and get a result, so this is a tremendous achievement. Mike (Stowell), Steve (Beaglehole) and I are all very proud of the boys.

"We looked at them in the hotel pre-match and there really wasn't a great deal that we needed to say, but this result underlines the quality in the squad and this victory tonight is down to the collective effort of the group.

"It was great to be backed by the fans (nearly 1,000 of them) and they made a real difference. Sunday is sure to be a difficult game now, but they all are in this division and I am sure that we will be ready for Leeds."

Burnley boss Eddie Howe was very disappointed with the second half performance, after the Clarets had got themselves back into the game before half time. "It's disappointing because it could have been different," he said.

"At home we always have to try and be positive and take the game to the opposition, but against a quality side I felt we struggled with that in the second half.

"Looking at the 30 minutes leading up to half time I thought we were excellent and passed the ball really well. We were a little sluggish out of the blocks at the start of the second half and never really got our rhythm back, which was a shame because the first half was a good spectacle.

"We had that chance from Charlie and then at the beginning of the second half Andre had a header off the line, but we conceded soon after and then ran out of steam. It's small margins again, but we had chances tonight and ultimately their quality paid dividends."

On the penalty, he said: "I thought the penalty was a little bit harsh. I've looked at it again and it's a 50/50 shout, but I can see why the referee has given it because we gave him a chance to point to the spot and that's what he's done.

"It's just a shame we didn't re-assert our control in the second half, but they were the better team, even though we conceded three poor goals from our point of view. They were all avoidable and it's still our Achilles heel and still the area we need to concentrate on the most.

"They are a good side and I do think they will be up there at the end of the season, but I didn't think there was a great deal between us so there are positives to take from the game.

"We're not dissimilar to most team in the division. It is that tight and teams are up and down can't seem to put winning runs together. We are certainly in that group and it's hugely frustrating for everyone connected with the club. The best sides will be the ones who put a successful run together and that's what we are searching for."
