It's just people switching off and losing concentration

It was just his fourth game in charge; his second win and after the game he said: "I'm pleased with what we're getting on the pitch and it's nice to hear the fans cheering my name rather than booking me.

"I see it as recognition for me of what the players have produced on the pitch. The players have turned this around in the last three games. They've had a difficult time of late. It's not nice being a professional at the bottom of the league, losing games.

"I hope they've enjoyed it and have a good break. I'd love another game to keep this going to be honest but we'll continue our progress in the international break before the Millwall game."

It was their first home win of the season and he added: "We're delighted to get that first home win, even if it is November. There was anxiety at times when we did go in front but we were desperate to get the three points. As long as the players keep working hard, then we carry that ability, especially with the crowd behind us.

"I was delighted with Stephen Pearson's debut. He was composed, full of energy and even in the build up to his goal he's played a pass and run forty or fifty yards to score.

"Brett (Pitman) has been frustrated not playing and he can't hide that, but I was delighted with him. When you get Brett on the pitch he's a  goal threat. With Brett getting that goal and Albert's (Adomah) superb strike really set the second half alight for us. We were dogged after that. We were good to turn a decent week into a very good week with three points.

"We wanted to get the monkey off our back and secure that first home win to really galvanise everyone. We've kept the momentum going into the international break too."

It wasn't anything like so good news for Burnley boss Eddie Howe who saw the Clarets fall to a second defeat in four games, and he was pointing the finger at the defending as he explained this latest poor result.

"I felt once we equalised we would hopefully go on and win the game," Howe said. "We had the momentum with us, but unfortunately we got done on two counter attacks and we need to do better over the pitch because it's not just about the defenders.

"When you analyse the goals they are avoidable, not just once or twice but three times. If you analyse them there's a catalogue of errors and ultimately I take responsibility for that, but we have to do better collectively.

"They are simple goals to stop. I know that sounds stupid but they are because they are not fundamental problems. It's just people switching off and losing concentration and we are continually getting punished for it.

"I don't think we've been outplayed by a team this season bar Middlesbrough and today was no different. We kept the ball for long periods of time and frustrated them, but ultimately today we looked like we were seconds away from conceding and that's the worry and the focus.

"I am massively frustrated and I know the supporters will feel the same. Everyone is in the same boat and we all win and lose together. Defence is the area we need to work on and I can assure everybody we will.

"We are going to look at every option because we need to act and try to improve things, but we do have Michael Duff waiting in the wings and he just needs a couple of weeks of fitness work and hopefully he won't be too far away. He will be a really good, old head to add to the group.

"The important thing is that we stick to our principles and beliefs because we know and believe that long term things will turn for us and we will get consistency and go on a run of results."
