There’s no doubt that new
“There were a couple of good individual performances but that’s about it,” said a disgruntled
“In the first half we did everything but score really and we wanted more of the same from them in the second half.
“The squad is a little threadbare but we lost all our shape in the second half, not for any particular reason, just because of bad decisions from the players.
“I thought we created the better chances in the first half and Jensen kept them in the game to be fair. At this level you’ve got to take chances when they come along and we didn’t take ours. It could have been a different story.
“They didn’t let anyone down in the first half but it’s not about the first half, it’s a 90 minute game. You’ve got to work as hard as you can for 90 minutes and we didn’t do that. I don’t know why that is but I’ve got my ideas and suspicions.
“I wouldn’t go as far as to say the club is in turmoil but there’s got to be some hard and fast decisions made about what we’re doing and what direction we’re going in and we’ll make those now.
“I know what I’ve got to do and it might get worse before it gets better for
Steve Cotterill was all smiles after the game after our first win since the 1-0 success at Stoke. “It was a good win for us today and a valuable one,” Steve said, and then in a style befitting a former manager he added, “We only need another seven points now and we can live for another season.”
He was pleased with the performance as well as the result and added, “I thought we were good today, especially in the second half. They put some big balls into our box and we had to defend. They are a powerful team and if you don’t stand up to them and be counted, then you will buckle.
“They were bad conditions for both sets of players, it was pouring with rain but you can’t do anything about the win and it can spoil a game. It was a credit to both sets of players that they tried to play football but in the second half we were much the better side.”
“I thought the first was a great goal with the passing before it and we linked well,” he added regarding John Oster’s first goal for the Clarets.
“That’s what John Oster is a bout, it was a fabulous finish and he had his best game for us today. It has been hard for him with what has gone on and people, me included, probably don’t know what’s gone on in his head.
“He’s had a tough time and though tough times if you stand by people, they will come good for you. It would have been so easy to leave John out today because he hasn’t had the best of starts with us.
“He isn’t the type of player to go firing into tackles, but then if he did he wouldn’t have that deft finish. You need that flair and he produced a couple of instances in the game that would have opened up any team.”
On the second goal he said, “The second goal was a powerful drive that even threatened at one stage to him the net. It took so long to go over the line.
“It is great though for Ian at this moment in time. He scored two important cup goals and was the hero, then he missed the penalty last week and now he has scored again. It’s a funny old game.”
