It's a big week in our season

Kenny Jackett has seen his team drop into the relegation positions and he said ahead of this game: "We want to get out of the bottom three. The points total is close so that's a good thing that we are not necessarily in a situation where we are adrift but we want to be out of the bottom three as quickly as possible.

"The next game is at Burnley. We had a good result there last year. We feel we're close and our performance level is close to being good enough for us to pick up points but we have to make up that gap and make up that gap quickly.

"Our biggest improvement needs to be our goals against record. I felt we play good football. We've looked cohesive in every game. We've looked a threat in every game going forward but we need more zeroes and ones against to pick up points consistently.

"I feel we have the power and the experience at the back. We've just got to now go and find the right combination to make us hard to beat."

Asked about the Clarets, he certain accepted the big threat would come from Charlie Austin. He added: "He's on seven goals I believe which is as good as anybody in the division at the moment and the likes of Austin and Paterson provide Burnley with a very good strike force after the sale in the summer of the boy to Southampton.

"That's a good strike force and Wallace is playing well and they will be on the front foot at home, but we are confident if we get our game right we can give anybody problems. We don't have to look at the opposition too much. We must work hard to try to improve our game every time we go out to play."

Jackett mentioned last season and so did Eddie Howe, and the season before, as he looked forward to the game. "You only have to look back at the last two seasons and see they have been difficult games for us at home,” Howe said.

“They are a tough nut to crack, they are very physical and a real threat from set plays, so we don’t under-estimate Millwall. You know every time you play them what you can expect and we certainly need to perform better than we have done in the last two home games against them."

He continued: “It’s a massive week for us. We are under no illusions about the importance of these three games. We can only take one at a time so first we attack Millwall but I think it’s a big week in our season and hopefully we can get the momentum we want.

“We are delighted to be back on home turf - especially when we have won two out of three games at home and performed pretty well - and hopefully the crowd can give us that extra push we need as well.

“They have got such a huge part to play. We do say it all the time but our home form is going to be pivotal to us this year and the next two games are massive ones for us.”

Howe added: “We are certainly capable of winning games and we are certainly capable of scoring goals. I think whenever you come to see a Burnley game at the moment you can expect good entertainment at both ends of the pitch, but we certainly know that we have to tighten up and it’s mainly set plays.

“We are disappointed at the number of goals we have conceded from set plays, either directly or second phase. In open play we have been pretty tight so we know the areas we need to improve and if we can do that, with the goals we have got in the side, hopefully we should be successful.”
