It was a good run out for us

Bury boss Chris Casper said after the game: “We're not really concerned about the result, although it is nice to have that benchmark. Burnley had a strong team out so yes, it is nice to know that we can get a result against a team like that.

“We switched it around from the Everton game and the lads who played tonight, fair play to them, they gave a great account of themselves. We finished the game strong, and the last fifteen minutes was end to end stuff. Either team could have nicked it at the end. It was very competitive and the kind of work out I needed.

“We frustrated Burnley tonight, and we did that last season because we were organised. We've got to press teams when we can, it just doesn't come off by heart.”

Steve Cotterill saw things very much the same way. “It was a good run out for us,” he said. “I thought Bury played well, certainly in the first half and I thought they were the better team for the first twenty minutes.

“We looked a little bit sluggish for the first half hour but I thought we came into the game a little bit more after that. I think had the chances gone in it would have broken Bury's spirit. But all the time it stayed at 0-0, whether it is pre-season or not, they knew there was a result at the end of the day for them.

“To be fair I think they deserved their result, they deserved that little bit of luck when Andy Gray hit the post. And there was a great save from Alan Fettis from Alan Mahon's free kick and another great save from Steve Jones.

“We're happy though, although we've come out of the game with a knock to Chris McCann which we are a little disappointed about.”
