It is kindergarten stuff and I won't be grinning and bearing it

Ipswich boss Joe Royle was not at all surprised about the fact that they won by so many and said after the game, "It has been coming for a while and it just turned out to be my old mate Stan that was on the receiving end," said Royle who was also the first manager to hit Stan’s Burnley for six back in 1999 with Manchester City.

"We were awesome going forward in the first half and could have scored more goals than the five we did get, not that I’m complaining at only getting five though.

"We did switch off in the second half but that is understandable although it was really disappointing to give the goal away. But it leaves us just six points off the top spot and that cannot be bad for a team that was supposedly relegated last month.

"I’m not a great one for all these statistics though but I am proud of the news that we are now topping the First Division goal charts especially given the fact that we don’t even have a runaway goalscorer in the team.

Stan was yet again shell shocked at another inept defensive display from his Burnley team but pointed to the loss of David May and Andy Todd as significant losses for the team.

"I hope to be able to bring some more players in for this weekend. I certainly need a few, but this result doesn't increase that urgency because it isn't anything I don't already know," Stan said after the game.

"A lot of clubs are in the same situation but I won't be grinning and bearing it, I will be trying to do something about it. The problem is that the quality of player we need is of the ilk of Andy Todd and they are hard to come by - certainly on my budget.

"Every now and then we throw one in and this was one of those nights. We were all right for twenty minutes and we had chances to have taken the lead before they scored, but once they were in front we weren't at the races and we got exactly what we deserved.

"I thought Ipswich were very good, but we were woeful. The goals we gave away were soft goals, we made it too easy for them and to concede them the way we did is kindergarten stuff. I could talk about the first half performance forever because we were well and truly thrashed.

"In the second half we played for a little pride, but by that time the game was gone and it's certainly nowhere near the standard of performance I've come to expect from my lads but there is no doubt about it, if you face facts we have had the heart ripped out of the team at the centre of the defence with Andy Todd and David May both out.

"That's not an excuse though, the other players have to come in and stand up and be counted. They are just the two central defenders, but we win as a team and we lose as a team and we have to be a lot better."
