it is four clean sheets on the bounce now

Nigel Pearson had seen his Hull side keep three successive clean sheets and in doing so they recorded their first away win in almost thirty months, but any chance of another victory on the road came crashing down at Turf Moor.

Asked his opinion of their performance, Pearson said: "Embarrassed after what was a very good result last Saturday."

He added: "We weren't good enough and we didn't show the desire or appetite to do something about it during the game. It is something that we're going to have to rectify very, very quickly because I'm not happy about the fact that we can go from being solid and showing the right sort of attitude to last night.

"It was a major disappointment, not just losing the game but the fashion in which we lost the game. We didn't make Burnley work hard enough to score their goals and I'm getting a bit tired of saying the same things about tracking runners.

"We did the basics poorly. It's my team, so it's my responsibility and we will be working hard to rectify things."

Speaking about conceding two goals early in the second half, he said: "You just can't do that. At 2-0 down, the next goal is always going to be important. To be 4-0 down eight minutes into the second half, it became a damage limitation exercise but I still didn't think we showed enough discipline.

"I feel bitterly disappointed for the fans that travelled across. I'm sure they went home and thought 'what the hell have I seen there?' because it just wasn't good enough."

It might not have been good enough for Pearson, but it certainly was for Laws who watched his side, not only score four times, but record a fourth successive clean sheet.

"On the back of the performances we've had lately you wonder how long you can keep going, but full credit to the players," he said. "They were creative and kept going forward and it was a thoroughly good win in the end against a good side.

"We are particularly delighted with another clean sheet and a performance that backs up what we have been doing for the past few weeks. We had to be resilient and it is four clean sheets on the bounce now, which gives us a base to work from. In the end, it was a comprehensive victory and it could have been a bigger margin.

"If you can get that first goal it is always going to be key and that one in particular was outstanding. In fact, I thought but full backs were a constant thorn in Hull's side. Ty put in a great ball for Big Chris, who doesn't miss from those areas, to set the tone of the game.

"Chris Eagles then finished off another great move from Danny on the other side and you will go a long way to see a better team goal.

"The second half was always going to be important and we got the next goal and then a fourth in quick succession. That killed the game and made it a long half hour towards the end. But the game was done and dusted and it was a great night for the players because it was a superb night for everyone."

He concluded: "I think we have played better recently without getting the rewards. We should have at least another four points, but we are going in the right direction.

"We have conceded over 100 goals in the past two seasons and we had to tighten that up because it's ridiculous. The back line has been superb and the whole team is working hard, on and off the ball."
