It does sum up our last couple of weeks

Phil Brown saw his side remain unbeaten in the league this season with a late equaliser but was still whinging about the ball boys even after the final whistle.

“I’ve not been involved in too many halves of football like the second half at Turf Moor,” he said. “Not only did we concede an equaliser after the break that was unforgivable but then there were all the delays in play whilst the ballboys took an age to return the ball. That didn’t seem to be happening when we were 1-0 up.

“If it was up to me I would scrap the multi-ball system altogether because it certainly wasn’t being utilised fairly this afternoon. I apologise though for going on the pitch and I take full responsibility for my actions, but there was a lot of passion out there and we had lost our lead so I wasn’t best pleased.

“It is a shame that all these incidents overshadow a great first half performance from us. We could have been two or three nil up at the break. We conceded sloppy goals in the second half but, as the lads have done ever since I arrived here, we dug deep, showed plenty of desire and determination and got the draw, which was the least we deserved.”

Talking about the incident that saw Marc Edworthy injured Brown said, “I know Graham Branch is not a nasty player because I have played against him, but we’ll take a good look at the video tape and see exactly what happened. Our thoughts are with Marc right now and we hope he can mend as soon as possible, but it was a serious gash and he will probably miss Monday’s game.”

Steve Cotterill was disappointed the Clarets couldn’t hold on and was also disappointed with the decision that saw Wayne Thomas sent off.

“It was never an elbow,” he said. “I’ve seen the replay twenty times. I asked the referee to look at it and he says it is inconclusive. There was no way it was an elbow and if we appeal and he looks at it again do they come down on the side of the referee? I don’t know what the answer is to that but it does sum up our last couple of weeks.

“We were in the ascendancy at that time and we started the second half like we should have started the first half. We started it like a whirlwind and deservedly got our noses in front whereas in the first half we were second best.

“There was some good football played today, but it will be overshadowed by other incidents. We are not being tough enough at the back though and last year we would have held on.”
