I was proud of everything today

I don't know quite what to make of Michael Appleton's comments. "I hope it's damaging to Burnley and I hope it feels like it's the worst result they have ever had," he said, adding: "I thought for the effort in the second half, when Burnley lost their discipline and we kept ours, we stayed patient and David Dunn did the job for us."

I happen to think those comments say more about him than the game. They show him to be a classless and bitter man, and I'm absolutely delighted he's not our manager.

Sean Dyche will probably take some more criticism for once again pointing to a crucial decision from the match officials that he believes they got wrong, but if he is of the opinion that David Dunn's equaliser was offside he has every right to say that.

"I'm very frustrated with the outcome again," he said at the final whistle. “We have found it tough to be on the right side of decisions and one goes against us again at a vital moment. Their lad scored when he was two yards offside and when you see it again it’s a clear one.

“That is a real, real sickener when the players have worked that hard for themselves, the fans and the club.

“I have no issue with the six added-on minutes. Ross (Wallace) was down for a couple of minutes and they can decide how long to play, but what needs to be warranted is getting a decision that was correct.

“It’s happened far too many times to us this season, but I will not let that take away from the rest of the game today because I am very proud of the lads.”

Turning his attention to his players and the performance, he added: “The first half was terrific and in the second we contained them. The sending off changed the whole feel and I don’t have any issue with that either.

“We knew it was going to feel different from them on, but we felt the way we were playing we could organise as we did and then a decision goes against you.

“I have just said to the players though that they should be proud. It’s not an easy ride at the moment, so to go out there and play with that freedom and on the front foot, shows they have it in them and now we need more of that.

“I was proud of everything today, particularly the support. It was a nearly day as we tried to change history – and it would have been deserved.”
