I was expecting a lot more than I got

Brown had asked his players to come out like a wounded animal, and just as was the case there last season, it was all over and done with before the half hour. "Let's go on about our first half performance," said Brown.

"That was the best 45 minutes of football I have seen from a Hull City side at the KC Stadium during my time at the club. We got 2-0 up and it could quite easily have been three, four or even five. Caleb Folan had a couple of chances and there were a couple of penalty shouts. The quality was there and everybody responded to the challenge.

"Unfortunately the game was flawed by a host of cards. I looked at Caleb in the first half and thought he was getting some harsh treatment. I felt that if Mr Riley didn't do something, Caleb would either get hurt of there would be some kind of incident.

"If Caleb deserved his red card, I'll deal with that in-house and that goes for Jay-Jay Okocha too. If they are out for three games it gives somebody an opportunity."

Brown confirmed there would be no appeals regarding the red cards. He said: "No, I don't see the sense in changing three game bans into six game bans."

Owen Coyle was a disappointed as his former captain Brown was delighted after the Clarets turned in a horror show on a par with Blackpool that also saw both Steven Caldwell and Joey Gudjonsson sent off.

Coyle was playing Wenger after the game and said: "A couple of the incidents I just didn't see. For the first red card I just saw Steven Caldwell lying down and then I thought it was a harsh second yellow for his sending off on the half way line.

"Equally I never saw Jay-Jay Okocha's either and with Joey, I am curious to know why he earned a yellow card there on the say so of the assistant referee. They must have seen something, but there you go."

Coyle wasn't using that as any excuse for the performance and added: "I am not getting away from the fact that we never got to the standards we have set previously and that's what disappoints me from the game. The Burnley fans were short changed because I was expecting a lot more than I got.

"I am bitterly disappointed because we came here to win and we've left with nothing. The first goal is a soft one that probably should have been saved by Brian. Then you look for a reaction, but the second goal is a wonder strike and suddenly you are two goals down with a mountain to climb.

"We came out in the second half and started well and should have scored through Kyle Lafferty at the far post. We got an improvement, but I can't take anything away from the fact that Hull City were great in the first half and we were poor.

"It is just very disappointing because this was an opportunity to put distance between us and they have jumped above us."
