I thought we looked terrific all day

Roeder, already coming under pressure from disgruntled Norwich fans, had warned ahead of the game that his side needed to start producing their home form on the road, yet he saw them outplayed by the Clarets.

The media had something of a wait for our former assistant manager who kept his players in the dressing room for some considerable time. "I spoke to them for a long time after the game," Roeder said when he finally emerged.

"There was no rating and raving but we need as a group to greatly improve our performances away from home. Our away form is simply unacceptable.

"We've picked a great result at home against Wolves and a good win against Doncaster but we need to start showing the same commitment and bravery we show at Carrow Road when we go away as well.

"Today at half time, although we rode our luck at times in the first half, we've gone in at 0-0 and that's not a bad half time scoreline away from home. But second half we've conceded two soft goals and we've only had one real chance for Leroy Lita and that's not good enough."

Owen Coyle was in a very different mood after this win, a game he'd warned would be tough after the midweek win over Reading. "I'd said during the week it was going to be our most difficult game of the season, I had no doubts about that given the performances against Birmingham and Reading.

"I think those games take care of themselves, but there was probably an expectation today that we were expected to win and I'm delighted the lads have stuck to what we're trying to teach.

"I thought the game was similar to last week at Charlton and should have been out of reach by half time. The level of play was fantastic and the openings we created were real gilt-edged chances, and within that I thought some of the play and movement was very exciting to watch.

"We really should have been well in front by half time, but we weren't, so we asked them to just keep believing in what they were doing and stay true to the principles of what we're trying to teach. And we did that to score two magnificent goals."

Coyle left out Martin Paterson ahead of the game to bring in Robbie Blake for his first start since August. When Robbie was substituted off Coyle, like the rest of Turf Moor, stood arms above his head to applaud the performance.

"Robbie's been champing at the bit to play," Coyle said. "We know the quality he's got and he certainly looked as though he'd a point to prove. As a manager that's all I can ask for."

And on the goals he said: "They were exquisite finishes, but I thought we were clever like that all day with some of the set plays and corners. They worked a treat and it's nice when things you work on in training come off in a match. I thought we looked terrific all day. Having said that, while the game is 0-0 or 1-0, they've got some very dangerous players."
