I thought it was a real footballing game

Baggies boss Tony Mowbray never appears to show much enthusiasm but almost forced a smile at the end as he saw his side get back to winning ways. "It was a well deserved three points," he said.

"The general flow of the game was towards their goal. Rather than creating lots and lost of chances, we got some great positions to score goals. But you have to give Burnley lots of credit.

"You can see why they've got the second best away record in the league. They're a good football team, move the ball around the pitch and have a system that suits them. They gave us a few problems and we gave them a goal start, which we seem to do most weeks. Thankfully we had enough quality to get the three points."

Mowbray was pleased his side didn't let the missed penalty affect them. "Sometimes a penalty is a psychological thing. You think you've already scored the goal before it goes in the back of the net.

"If you miss a penalty, it gives the opposition a lift and flattens you for a little bit because, in today's case, you haven't got that two goal barrier. But we saw it out. There have been other days when we might not have seen it out, especially when the opposition are pushing their big men forward and putting the ball in the box.

"I think it was the right result with the way the game went and the chances and possession we had. The bottom like is that after the initial ten minutes we showed great determination to make sure we didn't lose this game."

Owen Coyle admitted to being disappointed at the result but saw enough positives from the performance. "I thought we made a terrific start to the game, but we were disappointed not to see it through," he said after the game.

"We said we would come here and try to be positive against a fantastic footballing side. They are not top of the Championship by accident, they are a very good team with good individual players.

"Just before the goal, West Brom had a good spell of pressure but we felt comfortable within that. For me it was a clear foul in the build up to the corner which led to the equalising goal. Those decisions can be important in a game and so it proved. We never defended the corner properly and we paid a heavy price. "I felt West Brom's football was better in the first half and we were disappointed with the second goal which we conceded.

"I felt the effort and work ethic from my players was second to none and I thanked them for that at the end. If they show that on a weekly basis then we will win games in the Championship.

"There was a terrific atmosphere with the fans and we had a great support with us today and I am disappointed they have left with nothing to show. I thought it was a real footballing game, with both teams going all out to win the match.

"Unfortunately we didn't manage to do that, but we offered an awful lot to the game and on any other Saturday we might have taken something from the match. We'll come back stronger from it and next week's game gives us a chance to redress the balance and get three points to start another run."

On the new signings Coyle added: "Andrew Cole was unlucky not to score. He showed some terrific movement and proved he has an awful lot to offer the football club. He looked sharp and hungry and has a part to play in helping Burnley Football Club.

"Mark Randall is 18 years of age and looked comfortable coming into that environment, getting onto the ball and hopefully we can help in his development to go on and have a great career at Arsenal."
