I might tinker it here and there

Acting boss Tony Parkes (pronounced Perks) has let Thompson do the talking ahead of this one and the former Jimmy Mullen signing spoke about Blackpool's home record this season. They have won just four times at Bloomfield Road.

"It's a concern," Thompson said. "It is when you see us playing away from home because our away form is better than our home form at the moment, which is worrying and a little bit disappointing. But it is something that we will rectify.

"Burnley are having an absolutely fantastic season with the cup runs and where they are in the league. They're a credit to themselves how they've kept going throughout the season with so many games.

"It's going to be an exciting game tonight, they need the points for different reasons than we do at the moment but we think that we've got players who can hurt defences. We're just looking for that little end product in the final third which we see in training, so we know what these lads can produce.

"We've got a few points to prove to the fans and to ourselves really because we have been disappointed with the performances in the derbies."

Recalling the game last year he added: "That's what we're capable of doing. That's what we've got to start doing at Bloomfield Road. We've got to make sure that all these games coming up are all cup finals for us."

And finally on his former club he said: "I have fond memories of being at Burnley and I made a lot of good friends there, but it is vital that my loyalties are firmly with Blackpool Football Club. Hopefully it'll be a good game and Blackpool will come out with three points."

Meanwhile, after saying same again for the past few games, Owen Coyle is looking to freshen things up after Saturday's defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.

"Saturday was certainly disappointing," he said. "We came out to get the three points and we were the architects of our own downfall, gifting them the opportunities to win the game. We didn't get to the standards we have set previously and I, as manager, have to look at that.

"Along the journey there will be highs and lows, but that's the nature of football and why everybody loves it. We have to stick together.

"Maybe it is time for some freshness to get an edge and some sharpness back into our play. I have to try and help the players because it's been a monumental effort from each and every one of them. Now I think it is time that one or two had a rest because the demands we play on them are very high.

"I might tinker it here and there to freshen it up, which will help them, and if that's the case we can kick on from there. There are a few options in my thoughts who have some youth and enthusiasm. One or two certainly come into mind for starting tonight, but we'll look at the training and take it from there."

Coyle continued: "Because of the results at the weekend everything is still to play for and that's got to be the focus. We have to look to be at our best in a tough derby game, and you know it will be competitive because games against Blackpool always are.

"If we can replicate the performance we showed against them earlier in the season then we know it's a game we can go and get the points in. Blackpool are a very hard working team, they do have some very good players and have shown they are a good Championship side.

"We're going to have to work very hard and be good, both in possession of the ball and against the ball. If we can do all that together that should be a platform to try and win the game.

"There is so much incentive in a derby game and we want to make sure we are focused on that. We are into the final quarter of the season and it's important that we try and win each and every game as we always do.

"We have a group of players who are desperate to do well for the football club, they have played an enormous amount of games, but we know they have got the mental attitude to go with the physical fitness."
