I have a few banging my door down to start now

He'd seen is side go two goals up before the Clarets pulled one back before half time but then came the penalty, converted with seven minutes to go, that changed the game.

"We ended up losing a game which I felt quite comfortable about winning," Warnock said. "It is frustrating for a manager when this happens. As Clint Hill went up for the ball the referee had a great view of the incident and we get their fans roaring but not one appeal from a Burnley player.

"The linesman who is some 45 yards away ends up giving the decision but it has got to be deliberate for it to be given. You wait thirty minutes and have a chat with the officials but nothing changes."

On his team's performance, he added: "We were positive going forward but I can't really tell you what we need because this is going to be read by fans of all ages. We shouldn't have let the penalty decision affect us and should have regrouped and we could see it was there for the winning.

"After the penalty went in there was only going to be one team who won it. It knocked the stuffing out of us and we've got to show more.

"We're not anywhere near, we know we need surgery in the summer, but tonight answered a few questions for me. Tonight we lost individual battles and they ran out comfortable winners."

Owen Coyle spoke about the character of his side after this latest comeback, the first time we've come from two behind to win since the victory by the same scoreline at QPR in February of last year.

"If ever anyone wanted an answer to the number of games we have played, game 49 and two goals down after coming off a massive game at the Emirates on Sunday, that was it," he said.

"It would have been easy to just hide yourself away and roll over. We wouldn't allow it anyway, but the players don't know how to do it.

"The teams in the top half of the Championship would have been rubbing their hands after half an hour with us two goals down, but the lads have shown courage and bravery to go with their physical fitness and mental strength to see it through."

He continued: "I thought we started the game on the front foot and I felt so aggrieved to be two goals down in the game. It was a scrappy goal that Clarke got to get us back in it and I said at half time I would be disappointed if we didn't win the game.

"I wasn't talking about drawing the match. I knew if we didn't give cheap goals away and created chances that we would score goals and so it proved."

Owen had his own view of the penalty. "I felt it was a clear hand ball for the penalty," he said. "But at that stage they were fortunate to still have eleven men on the pitch anyway after Steven Thompson was clearly pushed running through.

"In the end we got what we deserved and Graham showed such composure before Steven scored an outstanding goal. Then young Jay, who we have such high hopes for, scored such an accomplished finish.

"I have a few banging my door down to start now and that was very evident tonight. But I'm also pleased for the fans. They stayed with the team and I am just delighted the players rewarded them for that loyalty."
