I don't give a fiddler's whether we play sexy or not

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has seen his side grinding out wins in recent weeks after starting the season with some big wins, but he's just as happy to see the one goal wins as he was when they were hitting the likes of Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest for four and five.

"The season will take twists and turns all the time," McCarthy said. "There will be occasions when we play really well and things are all rosy and then we lose a couple and things aren't so great. Then we have to scrap back and get back at it. The season will take a whole load of different traits and characteristics which you need to get through.

"We were winning really well early on but I can't imagine being a manager turning up to a team who've been scoring lots of goals and not thinking this is going to be a really though game and we want to get something here and make it hard for them to play. The opposition has a real baring on our performance.

"The phrase 'sexy football' isn't one that's come from me and I don't give a fiddler's whether we play sexy or not, I want to win. When you get home on a Saturday night and you've won you always think it was a sexy performance. If you've played well and got beat everyone thinks it was rubbish."

Looking at this team compared to last season McCarthy added: "I'm still not sure we're playing much different to last season but the difference is we're putting the ball in the net and taking advantage of those defining moments in games is what it's all about."

Owen Coyle's Burnley are currently in excellent form and he along with his players is very much looking forward to the game. "As a player you want to play against the best players and the best teams, and as a manager you're no different," he said.

"The group of player we have are looking forward to the game, they want to stand with the best players in the Championship. We'll have to be at our very best to get anything from the match.

"Wolves are not top of the league by accident, they are there because they have been the best team up to this point, and the best team by some, with the goals they are scoring.

"They took a couple of little hits, but all credit to them they bounced back from that and showed resilience to go with the quality they have. Middle to front, and the defensive players they have, could hurt anybody, but we also know we have the players who can hurt the opposition and that's what we'll look to do."
