He's certainly not the finished article

"Everything about the performance was good," Coyle said. "We asked the boys to step the pace up and in the end it was very pleasing. We looked strong and played good, fluent football, so there's no doubt it was a very good night's work.

"The boys showed a real appetite and application for the game and we really took the game by the scruff of the neck."

A number of players were left out and Coyle explained: "I purposely left five players out of the game and they will play at Portland on Saturday. So some of the lads got 90 minutes tonight and others got 60.

"Again it's all about a gradual progression so that come August 15th each and every one is ready to play their part."

He also spoke about the mystery trialist who turned out to be Ecuadorian Fernando Guerrero. "He's certainly not the finished article, but he's the type of player that I like. He's exciting. We've got a few of them, but I like four or five of them."

The players ended the night by signing autographs and posing for photographs. "Nothing was too much of a problem for them, but that's the type of group we have got," Coyle said of them. "They are all very grounded and again it sums up that we are very much a family club."
