By no means are we at the bottom of the valley

They were beaten at home last week and are looking to get back to winning ways but Bruce said today: "The challenge is just as difficult. We know all about Burnley and about how difficult it can be.

"Every report that has come back on them says the same thing, they have a great spirit and they're desperate to stay in the Barclays Premier League. Their spirit will demand that we have to play well. Every game provides its own challenges.

"I'm a big admirer of Sean Dyche and his team and they're in here fighting. We must avoid becoming the first team to be beaten by them.

"The expectation is that we go there and get a result, but if people think it's going to be easy then they are very much mistaken. If we turn up and think we just have to jog around to get a result, then we've had it and Burnley will turn us over.

"We have to go with the mindset that we're playing a Liverpool or an Arsenal and we've been talking about that all week to make sure we have the mentality to go there and get something from the game.

"The first twenty minutes is always key. We saw how difficult it was last week when we conceded after two or three minutes. The first goal is often the key to it all.

"Burnley have come out of the blocks flying in every home game we've seen. They're keen to make their mark in this league and that has been evident to everybody."

Needless to say Sean Dyche was asked about our winless start to the season and, after he'd jokingly confirmed that Arsène Wenger had refused his request to take Alexis Sanchez on loan, he said: "Sometimes you have to be at the bottom of the valley to appreciate the view from the top of the mountain.

"By no means are we at the bottom of the valley because it's a terrific journey for us. The players here are motivated to win games and so am I. The fans know that too. We had 26 wins last season in our promotion campaign, so they know the demand is there.

"They also know we have gone up to a very high level in arguably the best league in the world. Our resources are a challenge in doing that, because they are developing, progressing and trying to win all at once. That's a tough ask, but a challenge that we want."

Speaking about the team and potential line up, he added: "You have a belief in how you work and how the team should operate. Being flexible in that is a given. If you always do what you have always done, you always get what you have always got. We know it needs flexing and changing, but there won't be radical change.

"You don't get promoted in the fashion we did last year without there being something there that is effective. It's about how we can twist and add to that to make it more effective in a better market.

"There is a higher quality, a higher physicality and less weak links in the teams we face, both individually and as a team.

"So it's something that never leaves my mind for a minute. Don't think there's not one minute in the day when I think 'I need to win'. It's always there and it's challenging myself and the players and staff to find a way to win."
