Beauty is often in the eye of the beholder

Dave Jones made some changes to his side but it was hardly an under strength eleven that Burnley got the better of in that first half and he had praise for the Clarets after the game,

"It was a case of not stepping off the gas and putting in another shift to get us through," said Jones. "Burnley were the better team in the first half but the early goal in the second period settled us down.

"Tonight was all about getting the players who have not been in the first team recently through ninety minutes and I also wanted to give at least one of the youngsters a run out.

"The lads who played on Saturday felt a bit leggy but that is understandable whilst the pitch was slippy and the wind was getting up."

Stan made little, in fact no, comment on the slippy pitch or the wind. He was quick to praise his side for their first half performance but had words about the two goals we conceded.

"I thought we played quite well and we played very well in the first half," Stan said adding, "I didn’t think there was much to choose between the teams.

"But the two goals we gave away were ridiculous. We went 1-0 down out of nothing just after half time and the second was a free header from a corner and that is just not good enough.

"We played well throughout the game, we created some chances and our ball retention was good."

He had special words for the returning Glen Little and possibly a dig at Sam Allardyce who has recently chosen not to make much use of the Burnley winger.

"I thought Glen was terrific tonight. He has Premiership quality but beauty is often in the eye of the beholder."
