Another day we would have won the game

Sturrock had seen his side win their last two games against Preston and Wolves and was hoping they would continue their good run of form. It wasn't to be and he wasn't happy with the way his team performed.

“It was the game after the Lord Mayor's show,” he admitted. “We looked very sluggish and there wasn't the edge we've shown over the last two weeks.”

He admitted there was a concern over fitness and added he would look at the training schedule for the rest of the season. “When five or six of your players say they are out on their feet you have to listen to that,” he added. “We've done a lot of hard work on the training ground and I need to make sure we've got the legs next Saturday.”

On the game he said, “I think a draw was a fair result because Burnley had a couple of clear cut chances they maybe should have done better with, but if someone had told me we'd increase our pointage on third-bottom I'd have taken it and I'm glad we're still unbeaten in for games.”

Steve Cotterill saw the Clarets take their unbeaten run to three games but admitted, “We're a tinge disappointed we haven't come away with all three points but it was a hard fought point. We had three good contact headers today and if they are on target, they go in.

“Frank Sinclair and Chris McCann both had headers that went a wide yard and Andy Gray took the ball round the goalkeeper but saw his effort cleared, that was good defending by their lad.

“So with four gilt edged chances like that, we are disappointed we haven't got all three points. I think the lads are disappointed with the headers and Andy couldn't have done any more. From where they are, I expect those lads scoring because I know they can do it and see them do it every day.”

Cotterill admitted the conditions weren't conducive to good football and added, “It was difficult becaue you got lads out there trying to do their best and the pitches this time of year are not the best. There are games called off for waterlogged pitches but they are rarely called off because of the wind, so fair play to them today because they did their best to get the win for us.”

Looking at the overall performance he added, “We have a healthy competitive edge now and we are pleased with all of their efforts. As I've said before, it is not a good time to be out of the team.

“We've come here on the back of two games against Norwich and Southampton, who are good athletes and will take it out of you. We've come to Wednesday and they are on he back of wins against Preston and Wolves, so it is not a bad result for us.

“We didn't come for a draw and we had a lot of the ball and the best chances, another day we would have won the game.”
