A win at Preston could be a big turning point

Another defeat at Southend, coupled with disappointing results elsewhere in the last seven days, has seen most of the bottom six clubs move ever closer to the Clarets and we now go to Preston looking to bring this run of games without a win to an end.

"With the results over the last couple of nights, to be fair, we are in a fight with the others," Cotterill said. "We mentioned it in the dressing room ten days ago and we are very much in that fight now.

"Those home games will be important to us because the crowd are passionate here, but the players will fight tooth and nail, make no bones about that. We know that three teams have to get above us, but we are not blasé about it. I don't think we ever have been, even when we were top of the league. Our personalities have never changed, there's still a hard work ethic, as there was then. We just need to get a win, and we are due one."

Cotterill admitted that we haven't been attacking sides with enough players, and said: "We haven't got enough of us in the opposition box, and we've worked on getting bodies into the box when people have been wide.

"We are capable of beating Preston, we've shown that, but we need the rub of the green. A local derby is a good game to look forward to and there will be pressure on both teams for different reasons.

"To get a result for the supporters, the chairman and directors would be great, and you never know. A win at Preston could be a big turning point."
