A few of our supporters behind me got a bit fidgety

Oldham boss John Sheridan thought his side had been as good as us until the first goal went in and then admitted we were the better side. "I thought we did well for sixty or seventy minutes and matched Burnley until their first goal.

"We played well against a good footballing team from a league above, but going behind killed us a bit and we found it hard to come back. The result doesn't look good, but the fact that Burnley's 'keeper got man of the match probably tells you something about the game.

"People will see the score and think we've been hammered, but it was more about Burnley being clinical in front of goal, which unfortunately we weren't. We had a real go at them, and, although I never like getting beaten, I can take positives because we are slowly improving as a team.

"We do need to start scoring goals, but the chances were there and we've got players who can do it. I'm not happy, but again I'm not too disappointed either."

Steve Cotterill was satisfied with the performance, particularly given that we were fast running out of players. "These are tough games and we knew it would be exactly that," he said after the win. "In the end we took our chances and it looks easier than it was, but to be fair to Oldham they made it a tough game.

"A few of our supporters behind me got a bit fidgety which is disappointing because it is not as easy as it looks. These are tough games you know, look at some of the other results tonight. I love it when we keep a clean sheet and the strikers score, It doesn't get any better than that really, so we are pleased."

On his strikers, he said of Robbie Blake: "I'm pleased Robbie got the goal and is up and running and the goal might do him the power of good. For me he hasn't pulled the trigger enough and that has been my disappointment since he has been back.

"He has tried to fit in and be a team player and that is the first thing I would emphasise, but having said that I don't want him to be that when he is in and around the box. If he'd had an early strike instead of passing to Andy Gray, and then the free kick he had was three inches the other way he could have been going home with the match ball."

Pleased with Gray's goal, pleased with Blake's goal, he was also pleased to see Ade Akinbiyi come on and get a goal. "I said to Ade, I know you haven't got much time, but get yourself on the scoresheet like the other two.

"He did that and I am pleased because he has worked really hard to get where he is. I knew that was what he was going to do. The minute he got clean through and the keeper got set, I knew he was going to score like that. He is some sight when he gets into his stride."
