Top three all win in Alliance

Having won, Burnley could have only lost top place had Rochdale won by a five goal margin. They did win to stay right behind us on goal difference, but just by 2-0 against Stockport. That's the same result as Port Vale got against Oldham and they remain just two points behind with a game in hand.

Vale can go top this week. They play their game in hand on Wednesday afternoon and a win would see them climb back to the top place they've previously held once this season.

Vale then face Preston on Saturday and that could prove to be a very difficult game for them. Preston won their opening game this season and then lost the next six. They were bottom of the league for some time but a win against Bury on 23rd October changed all that.

It started a run of ten games of which eight have been won and two drawn and that's taken them to fourth place. Their draw against Walsall last Wednesday ended a run of six wins. They can only be rated as an outside bet but with both Vale and Burnley to play yet, and both at home, this remarkable turnaround might just see them retain the title they won last season.

Tranmere got their second win of the season last week and have followed that up with a 5-0 thrashing of Accrington to give them hope of getting off the bottom. Wrexham also went nap and there were wins for both Macclesfield and Walsall.

Last week's results are shown below along with this week's fixtures, Burnley's goalscorers and links to the fixtures, results and league tables for both the youth and reserve teams.
