Three team race for Alliance title

It was looking very much as though it would be current leaders Rochdale or Bury who would finish first, but things tightened up on Saturday. We got a 0-0 draw at Carrington against Bury whilst Rochdale were held 3-3 by local neighbours Oldham.

That all means Rochdale maintain their one point lead over Bury with them both having three games to play, but Wigan are now just five points off the top and do have a game in hand. Things could change tonight when Bury take on Wigan at Carrington, the game kicking off at 7 p.m. A home win would make things very difficult for Wigan to get ahead of them both.

No other team can mathematically make it now and just below that top three there are six teams within five points of each other. We are right in the middle of that group but we have played one game more than the rest.

There's no doubting who will finish bottom of the league. Morecambe were beaten 6-0 by Preston on Saturday. That has taken their goals against column to a staggering 90 from 28 games. They'll be hoping there aren't two more big defeats to come in their remaining couple of games or that total could reach three figures.

Both Accrington and Fleetwood have picked up some good results recently, and that's left Morecambe a long way from them. Fleetwood beat Walsall on Saturday to take them within four points of Accrington but, with only one game remaining, will finish next to bottom.

That next game is away to us this Saturday in what will also be our last game of the season. It's a home game for the young Clarets but as yet the venue for the game has not been confirmed.

Below are the results from the last two weeks, this week's fixtures, our goalscorers and the current league table.
