Three points separate top five in Alliance

We were top before the games kicked off on Saturday and nothing could change that. We should have been in action against second place Carlisle at Gawthorpe but the game was called off, and will now be played in February, because of the lunch time kick off at Turf Moor.

That gave the clubs just behind a real opportunity to close the gap and they all took it with Walsall and Preston now moving into second and third positions just a point behind us.

Walsall remain in pole position with games in hand. They won their first seven but had suffered a slight hiccup with two league draws and a surprise exit from the Youth Alliance Cup. They didn't miss out again on Saturday and won comfortably at Stockport to go within a point of us and with two games still in hand.

Preston are right up there too after beating Rochdale whilst Tranmere are alongside Carlisle having beaten Shrewsbury.

Elsewhere there were wins for both Oldham and Wrexham whilst the game between Bury and Morecambe ended in a draw.

Burnley are without a game again this weekend and that gives two of those teams just below us, Carlisle and Preston to go above us whilst both Walsall and Tranmere, sit it out with no game.

You wouldn't expect either of them to drop points either. Preston travel to bottom of the league Morecambe with Carlisle having home advantage against mid-table Stockport.

Burnley's next league game is at Rochdale on 10th December. Before that we face Rotherham United and Boston United in cup ties. Rotherham will be at Gawthorpe for the second round tie in the Youth Alliance Cup on Saturday 3rd December and three days later we get our FA Youth Cup campaign underway with a trip to Boston United.
