Three players say farewell as youth team win last game

The three players were all told recently they would not be offered professional deals but all three have continued to play for the youth team and were there again today. Woods and Edwards were in the starting line up whilst Williams replaced Edwards as a substitute in the second half.

They were part of a team that owed things, in terms of goalscoring, to the Irish with both goals coming from two of our young Irish players.

Dubliner Adam Evans opened the scoring on 28 minutes and Northern Ireland under-17 international Shay McCartan, from Newry, got the second 14 minutes into the second half.

It was a third goal of the season for Evans whilst McCartan took his tally to five and the win will ensure Burnley take third place in the table unless Port Vale can score a minimum of eight goals in their two remaining games.

The team for the final game was: Josh Cook, Curtis Woods, Alex Coleman, Tom Anderson, Steve Edwards (Ed Williams), Shay McCartan (Tommy Taylor), Joe McKee, Steven Hewitt, Archie Love, Adam Evans (Alex Mullin), Ross Wilson. Subs: Dean Overson, Neil Yadolahi.
