Second win takes youth team clear

A 1-0 win over Accrington leaves us as the only side with six points, although there are no less than 12 behind us on 3 points, all with a chance to go joint top next Saturday when we've no game.

Four of them have played only one game and no less than eight have won one and lost one so there is no early indication as to who might be the better teams this season.

Last season's winners, Rochdale, were held to a draw by last season's bottom club Accrington in their opening fixture and things went worse last Saturday when Carlisle, who were just one place above Accrington in 2010/11, hit them for five.

Carlisle were the highest scorers on Saturday but two others, Bury and Preston, scored four, Bury beating Blackpool and Preston getting their first points against Morecambe. Such is the start that Morecambe are one of only two clubs not to have a point so far along with Wigan who were beaten by Shrewsbury.

Elsewhere there were wins for Macclesfield, Stockport and Walsall.

With 17 teams in the league there is always someone without a fixture and this coming Saturday that's Burnley. Our next game comes on Saturday 27th August when we entertain Blackpool at Gawthorpe.

Below are last Saturday's results, this coming Saturday's fixtures and Burnley's goalscorers this season.
