Second defeat of the season for reserves

Such a result hardly looked likely as the young Clarets made a good start to the game. We looked to have gone in front in just the fourth minute through a Joe Jackson header but goalkeeper Richie Branagan made a brilliant save to keep it out at the expense of a corner.

Trialist Louis Rae-Beadle swung the corner over and from it we took the lead. It wasn't clear who had scored the goal with both Jackson and Chris Lynch close to it, but the last touch was from Bury's Jordan Melia who put through his own goal.

For much of the first half, playing up the hill, we were in charge of the game. Again Alex-Ray Harvey and Chris Anderson were to the fore in midfield and Michael King was getting a lot of joy down the left wing.

Goalkeeper Branagan proved to be Bury's saviour on more than one occasion but on 31 minutes he could do nothing as we doubled the lead. It was King who got the ball across and this time the home keeper could only watch as Jackson scored his first ever reserve goal to take the scoreline to 2-0.

A big win looked on the cards but Bury pulled one back two minutes later through Liam Boswell after goalkeeper Josh Cook dropped the ball at his feet. However, the two goal lead was restored within another two minutes as Dominic Knowles converted a Harvey cross.

With a 3-1 lead at half time Burnley were expected to go on and win the game comfortably, but it didn't happen as Bury came back after the break. Just six minutes in and it was 3-2 as a Luke McCarthy shot slipped from Cook's grasp and into the bottom corner.

Now it was a different game as Bury gained in confidence and when McCarthy got his second just past the hour it was all to play for.

At that stage it could have been anyone's game but in all fairness we failed to seriously trouble Branagan. With just a couple of minutes to go Bury thought they'd won it but Cook made a superb save to deny them.

Then, into stoppage time and the goalkeeper allowed a weak shot from Adam Dawson to roll into the net and Bury had snatched the points.

It really was a game of two halves. There was much to admire in the first half but once Bury had got their tails up it was very much a different story in the second half. It will be another four weeks before we play again when we play Oldham at home, our first game at Turf Moor since December.
