To make it even better, it was away from home and with a home game to come this week they'll be hoping to continue with the good start to the season. Port Vale were another side to get themselves a big away win, their 4-0 victory coming at Premier League Wigan.

Blackpool, meanwhile, were one of the strugglers last season, but just a few hours before their first team copied Port Vale at youth level by beating Wigan 4-0, their own youth team hit five, beating last season's runners up Rochdale 5-2.

There were also wins for Accrington, champions Preston and Shrewsbury on the opening day, all by 1-0 against Bury, Carlisle and Macclesfield respectively.

The game between Wrexham and Tranmere was the only draw.

Burnley had to sit and watch as the first week's games were played but are in action for thie first time this coming weekend.

Our opponents are Accrington Stanley at home with the game kicking off at Gawthorpe at 11:00 a.m.

Oldham are the side without a game this week.
