Preston go nap to go back on top of reserve league

We'd held the lead in league from August until recently but Preston's great run of results has seen them go above us as we've faltered with three defeats in four and the win on Monday forced North End to go out and do likewise the following day.

Bury were also winners on Tuesday, but neither they nor Accrington have reported the game and as such, again, we are unable to bring you the goalscorers as the 3-0 result gave the Shakers a second successive win. And with the loss of the manager and two of his coaches it left former Claret Alan Moore in charge for this game.

A day later and Preston's 5-1 win over Macclesfield was not quite as comfortable as it seems. Michael McLellan gave them the lead on the half hour and Luke Clark doubled that advantage four minutes before the break.

At half time it seemed as though they were going to be easy winners until Vinny Mukendi pulled one back on 55 minutes. Macc went on to dominate long periods of the second half but just couldn't find an equaliser before they were hit by three more Preston goals in the last three minutes from Jamie Proctor, Matt Dudley and George Miller.

On the same night Oldham travelled to Tranmere with a very experienced team with a number of first team players. Ryan Brooke gave them the lead just before half time and Warren Feeney netted from the penalty spot midway through the second half to give them a 2-0 win.

Wrexham would have gone back above us had they beaten Shrewsbury but they fell to a surprise 2-1 defeat and remain in third place.

There was no Glen Little this week but Gareth Taylor was in the starting line up and played until half time. It was Shrewsbury though who were in front after just two minutes when Kane Cort was able to pick his spot after a defensive mix up.

That lead became 2-0 on 78 minutes when Craig Disley scored but Louis Moss pulled one back from a free kick two minutes later. Wrexham piled forward in the closing stages but the Shrews hung on to take the points.

We have another chance to go top next Monday when we play Macclesfield at home and, should we, it will keep us there for a while longer this time with Preston not in action next week.
