Port Vale or Grimsby for Clarets in Youth Cup

Last updated : 12 November 2010 By Tony Scholes
It will be a week on Monday before our opponents are confirmed, that's when our potential opponents meet in their second round tie.

Like the FA Cup itself, the clubs from the Premier League and Championship are introduced at this stage which sees 32 ties played.

Last season we were drawn at Scunthorpe in this round and won 4-1 at Glanford Park before losing 5-1 in the fourth round against a very strong Manchester United side at Turf Moor. Michael King, Liam Newman and Dominic Knowles were the scorers at Scunthorpe, plus an own goal. Joe McKee got our consolation goal in the defeat to Manchester United.

A trip to Port Vale is a tough one; they are currently one place and one point behind us in the Youth Alliance League North West Conference, and with a game in hand. Grimsby play in the North East Conference and are currently in fifth place.

Vale are expected to be favourites to win through to the tie which must be played by 11th December.
