Carlisle were guaranteed top place once Preston's game against Shrewsbury was called off and they were always likely winners against Blackpool. They won it 5-1 and have now gone ahead of Preston at the top with the Clarets, with a game in hand, now there points behind Carlisle with a game in hand.
We were concentrating on the cup and the win against Rotherham has given us a place in the last eight of the northern section of the competition. There are just three teams left in from the North West League, including ourselves, with five from the North East League.
Rochdale, 2-0 winners at Bradford City, and Stockport County, who saw off Tranmere on penalties, are the other two sides from our league at this stage of the competition.
Bury and Morecambe were the other two who got through the first round but they both went out on Saturday with Morecambe, who have already conceded 44 goals in 14 league games, getting a hammering at Hull with Bury losing at home against Doncaster.
There was just one other game in the league, that between Port Vale and Macclesfield. They kicked off next to each other in the table and remain there having fought out a 2-2 draw.
Below are the results from both league and cup, Burnley's goalscorers and the draw for the third round of the Youth Alliance Cup, the games scheduled for Saturday 21st January 2012.
